Abstract

The Human Development Index (HDI) is the average index number of three HDI components, namely the health index (life expectancy), the education index (literacy rate and average length of schooling), and the purchasing power index. The human dimension of development has emerged as a very important issue. This issue questions the development goals which are considered less oriented towards humans and their human rights. Therefore, talking about the success of development is no longer limited to existing measuring tools such as GDP per capita income but has focused on the object of development itself, namely human development. In the sense of how to improve human resources (HR) so that they will be more able to participate optimally and be utilized in development. Furthermore, how do humans feel the progress of development itself. This Component Analysis of the West Java Province Human Development Index for 1996 - 1999 describes the development of human development in West Java during the period 1996 (before the economic crisis) to 1999 (after the economic crisis). We hope that this publication can serve as evaluation material and at the same time provide benefits for development planning.
